1st Report in 2010: Discussion on the Role of Technologies in Promoting Development in a National Strategic Region*

Abstract: For its unique geographic location, Yanbian City in Jilin Province is a critical region with strategic significance in the northeast of China. The current management of technologies faces an important challenge on how to play an active role in Yanbian’s economic development under the background of further implementation of China’s regional development strategies that put great importance on balanced development. In a preliminary discussion on the challenge, the article proposes several policy recommendations like expediting the implementation of strategic plan of regional cooperation development in Greater Tumen River Region, developing and implementing China’s supporting mechanism for development in this region, establishing national high-tech demonstration area of special industries and export processing base, technological renovation for upgrading the industries, strengthening and developing the building of technological services platform based on regional specific resources and geographic advantages.
