Abstract: The article details the concepts, latest research progress, and excellent application prospect of the synthetic biology. Based on discussion of its technical and economic characteristics, the article proposes three recommendations: building national research base for synthetic biology to promote strongly basic research in the area, attaching strategic importance to the development of synthetic biology technology in China , and establishing necessary regulations and systems in areas like biological safety, ethics, and intellectual property rights.
