The China-Korea Science and Technology Innovation Forum was upgraded to its current form as an intergovernmental forum from the then existing expert forum at the Eighth Meeting of the Korea-China Joint Committee on Science and Technology in July 2005 with a view to advancing China-Korea cooperation in science and technology and deepening exchanges between S&T personnel and policymakers of the two countries. The forum, co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of Korea, has been held for six years.

The Sixth China-Korea Science and Technology Innovation Forum in 2016 was held under the theme of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Cooperation for Win-Win Results” and consisted of four parallel sessions on innovation policy, nanotechnology, biotechnology and ICT, respectively. It was co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED), Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, Science and Technology Policy Institute of Korea, and China-Korea Science & Technology Cooperation Center.
