As a Category II Center under the auspices of UNESCO, CISTRAT continued in this year to fulfill the agreement between UNESCO and the Chinese Government, by carrying out a series of work on international training and joint research, and by enhancing cooperation among developing countries in the field of scientific and technological innovation policy.
Firstly, the international training workshop continued to be held, which provided technical support for S&T development strategies and policy research of developing countries.
Since August, CISTRAT had been working with the Department of Science Policy and Capacity Building of the UNESCO Headquarters, the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and other counterparts to prepare the enrollment of Chinese and foreign students. The training workshop was held under the title of “International Workshop in STI Policy Research and Method” from October 31 to November 19, with 13 international trainees and 7 Chinese trainees, most of whom were from government departments of science and technology management or universities and research institutions. The lectures covered a total of 25 research subjects under eight research modules (such as, S&T Statistics, S&T Finance, Technology Foresight, S&T System Reform, etc.). In addition to lectures, CISTRAT provided a chance for trainees to participate in the G20 Enterprise Innovation Forum and other academic activities such as on-site teaching in Tsinghua Science Park, China Science and Technology Museum, Suzhou High-tech Zone, Suzhou Science and Technology Square. The trainees were generally satisfied with the abundant and insightful training activities, as well as orderly event organization. Moreover, it was an important opportunity for them to understand the similar challenges faced by different developing countries which would benefit mutual
learning and further cooperation.
Secondly, international cooperation projects were conducted to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among countries with different models.
CISTRAT organized 4 institutes of Comprehensive Development, S&T System, S&T investment and S&T and Society to conduct research on China-South Korea Science and Technology Innovation Policy. They integrated resources and made reports in 2016 Seminar on China- South Korea Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation, which was jointly hosted by CISTRAT and Mianyang Municipal government.
Thirdly, international seminars were held to strengthen cooperation and dialogue among different countries in the fields of S&T policy and innovation.
Through the organization of various international conferences, as well as cooperation and dialogue with different countries in the field of science and technology policy research, CISTRAT strived to be a bridge and link between developed and developing countries. On September 23 to 26, CISTRAT participated in the 2016 Pujiang Innovation Forum, particularly the newly-added Seminar on One Belt One Road Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation. CISTRAT helped to translate the publicity materials, sorting out speeches of guests, registration and so on. On November 2, CISTRAT organized the fourth of its international seminar titled “Opportunities and Challenges for Technological Innovation in Developing Countries”. At the meeting, experts from UNESCO Headquaters, CISTRAT, Renmin University, and University of Karlsruhe delivered speeches on “Trend of China's Scientific and Technological Innovation and Progress”, “Innovation and Culture to Promote Sustainable Development”, “One Belt One Road under the Background of Infrastructure Investment”, “One Belt One Road Initiative to Promote Scientific and
Technological Innovation”, and “Global Perspective on Technology Research Methods and other Issues”.
Fourthly, CISTRAT organized joint research visits to enhance the quality of strategy and policy research.
CISTRAT organized research visits every year, which strengthens cooperation and exchange in the field of science and technology strategy and policy research. In this year, visits to developing countries increased significantly.
Fifthly, CISTRAT maintained stable relations with UNESCO, Natcom, and the League of Category II Centers in China.
