Lecture: European Research Evaluation and Funding System and the Use of Bibliometric Data Resources

September 28,2018

On September 18, 2018, the Institute of Science, Technology and Society invited Professor Gunnar Sivertsen of NIFU (Norwegian Institute for Innovation, Research and Education) and Professor Zhang Lin of the School of Information Management of Wuhan University to give a lecture on the European research evaluation and funding system and the use of bibliometric data resources. The lecture focused on topics such as the purpose of research evaluation, the two funding systems by the government and research institutes, the national research evaluation mechanism, the issue of trust and control in evaluation and the decision-making body of evaluation criteria. The participants showed a strong interest in the “adjusted friction counting method” referred to by Professor Sivertsen for the bibliometrics of thesis co-authors and the “Norwegian model for the evaluation of research performance”, and had a heated discussion on these topics after the meeting.
