On September 21, the Brazilian delegation led by Ana Célia Castro, Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, visited CASTED for exchange on topics such as technology foresight and its application in national S&T development planning, S&T finance policy, ethical governance of artificial intelligence, as well as China-Brazil S&T collaboration. President Zhang Xu hosted the symposium. Representatives from Institute of International Scientific and Technological Relations, Office for Think Tank Operation and Research Management, Institute of Science and Technology Foresight and Statistics, Institute of Science and Technology Governance and Talent, the Institute of Innovation and Development participated in the symposium.

During the symposium, Ms. Castro introduced their purpose of visit. Brazilian experts pointed out that China’s national Medium- to Long-Term Science and Technology Development Plan and major science and technology projects launched by the Chinese government have greatly promoted China's rapid development in this sector. They expressed the hope that Brazil can learn from China's technology foresight methodology system and apply it in Brazil’s planning formulation, in order to better guide S&T development. Representatives from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), Petrobras, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), and the BOCOM BBM conducted in-depth discussions with researchers from CASTED. Both sides stated that in the future, they will explore and strengthen collaboration in expanding personnel exchanges, conducting joint research, and establishing cooperation mechanisms.

President Zhang Xu warmly welcomed the Brazilian delegation and expressed his hope that the symposium would help further consolidate the existing sound cooperation between the two sides. It will further promote in-depth exchanges and joint research on topics such as technology foresight and S&T development planning, science and technology innovation governance, and explore new channels to strengthen cooperation between China and Brazil's science and technology innovation think tanks.
