The Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED) successfully hosted the 18th China-Japan-Korea Science and Technology Policy Seminar in Beijing on November 1st and 2nd, 2023. The seminar brought together experts and participants from CASTED, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Science and Development (CASISD), the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), and the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP), either in-person or online.

Under the theme of "Sustainable Development and Scientific and Technological Innovation", the seminar featured six sub-topics. The first session focused on "Highlights of Research Activities in 2023". Presentations were given by Byung-Seon Jeong, President of KISTEP; Mi Ock Mun, President of STEPI; Mami Oyama, Director General of NISTEP; Zhang Xu, President of CASTED; and Zhang Feng, Vice President of CASISD. They shared the latest advancements and future prospects of science and technology policies in China, Japan, and Korea respectively, highlighting important research progress over the past year.

Sessions two to six revolved around key issues such as "Measurement of Technological Innovation and STI Policies", "Cultivation, Flow and International Cooperation of S&T Talents", "New Economic Growth Engines and STI Policies", "S&T Foresight and SDGs Empowerment to STI Policy", and "Open Innovation Ecosystem under SDGs". Distinguished researchers from the three countries presented insightful talks on these subjects.

The Trilateral Science and Technology Policy Seminar, initiated in 2006, operates on a rotating basis among the three countries and five participating institutes. Its primary objective is to foster academic exchange and cooperation in the fields of science and technology policy, innovation strategy, and performance management. The upcoming seminar in the following year will be hosted by NISTEP.
